Opening its borders: Portugal! What do you need to know about Portugal during this new phase of the pandemic.

Opening its borders: Portugal is waiting!

It is already of public awareness that during the outbreak of Covid-19 the Portuguese government had taken all necessary public health measures to protect the entire population. Currently, Portugal is in the 3rd phase of the reopening plan, which started in May.  But what exactly does this mean? It means that a general behavior guideline was implemented and shared with the entire population, in which some of the measures are mandatory (social distance, use of face masks in public transportation, services, shops and supermarkets) and some others are highly advised. It was also enhanced by the Portuguese Government that the outbreak evolution analysis is constant and, when needed, the implementation of new measures will be carried out.

To prevent the spread of the virus and the possibility of contagion, all services should take hygiene and sanitization measures according to the indications of the Directorate-General for Health, with specific recommendations for various sectors of activity, such as the travel and tourism sector. With the “Clean & Safe” seal, implement by Portugal Tourism, all foreigners that visit Portugal can now have greater security and confidence in accommodation establishments, or other services and attractions.

If you want to travel to the Portuguese Territory, please know that there are no specific restrictions on mobility within the Portuguese territory or to cross land borders. However, please note below the main travel measures we have right now:

Opening its borders: Portuguese Airport Measures

To keep staff and passengers safe, Portuguese airports (Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Ponta Delgada e Funchal) have implemented several initiatives and the body temperature measurement system was implemented on arrival. Passengers will be asked to fill out a form from the Portuguese Health Authorities to be traced if they have been exposed to a case of COVID-19 on board.  Air travel to and from Portugal has been suspended for all flights to and from all non-European Union countries, with the following exceptions of Schengen Associated Countries (Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom) and Algeria, Canada, South Korea, Morocco, Tunisia, China. In these cases, at the time of departure, passengers must present proof of a negative COVID-19 test, taken within 72 hours before boarding.
