Storm Kristin challenged Portugal and revealed the true power of unity.

On the night of January 28, 2026, the central region of the country was battered by winds exceeding 200 km/h, leaving a trail of destruction, particularly in the district of Leiria.

The storm caused extensive damage to homes, businesses, schools, and forested areas, triggering a humanitarian crisis that affected thousands of lives. In this challenging situation, many families were displaced, hundreds of communities lost access to electricity, water, and communications, and businesses also suffered massive losses.

Faced with adversity and a lack of resources to rebuild what had been destroyed, the people of Portugal responded with acts of support: donating essential supplies to affected families, supporting local institutions and firefighters, and mobilizing volunteers who were on the ground providing aid to victims, cleaning up, and beginning the recovery process.

Rebuilding does not end when it is no longer in the news.

Two months later, there are still families facing difficulties and much left to rebuild. Every action still counts! In February and March, TP mobilized their volunteers to participate in initiatives to continue supporting the population in the areas affected by the storm.

One example of such an initiative took place on March 18. The team traveled from Lisbon to Monte Real, in Leiria, to continue the supporting efforts: cleaning the town’s streets and properties, as there were still some debris from collapsed walls, and fallen trees; organizing essential goods and distributing them to families both in the town and in more remote areas.

These actions not only help but also make a real impact: they strengthen communities and restore hope. In TP’s case, it’s an inspiration for our volunteers and it reinforces team spirit!
