Being the perfect 10 in sales is not an easy task, we know it. But let’s discover how can you get better than you are now…and succeed!

Well, you don’t need to be in a sales career to consider that you need to improve your salesperson skills. There are many moments in life when we need to be good (or very good) to sell ourselves or our ideas.

Whether at a job interview; at work when you have an idea and have to “sell” it to your boss; when you convince your friends to see a movie at the cinema over another; or even when you have to “beg” your boyfriend (or girlfriend) to choose a certain dessert so you can share it.

There are situations that would be much easier if you were a better salesperson. So, take a look at our sales tips and get ready to be the best seller in your team or in life!

1 – Know what you are selling

The basics. If you want to sell something, knowing what you’re selling is half of the battle.

In today’s world, people have more access to information than ever, so choose your arguments well, be true and trustworthy. Also, the more you understand what you are selling and why you want to sell it, the more confident you can be. And you know what they say… Confident people are better at sales!

2- Listen to your customer and make the difference

Listen, listen and listen. Many salespeople tend to speak much more than what they hear, but you need to hear what the customer needs to know what to sell or how to sell it.

You may be the best seller, but if the person you’re trying to sell something doesn’t believe in your product/idea/service, you don’t have a chance. Know what the client wants and needs to understand what you can “offer” him/her and how can it make a difference in their life.

3 – Put yourself in the customer’s position

Before you try to sell something, try to put yourself in the customer position. Listen to your speech and analyze it, as well as your sales approach. Try to understand each word and if everything makes sense. Would you buy what you are trying to sell?

With this exercise, you can have a better understanding of why you are not succeeding or how you can be better than what you are already being!

4- Slow down

Slow down. You don’t need to rush; you need to be successful. Sometimes when you don’t stop a bit, it’s when you lose the deal. People may become more resistant because they feel you are trying really hard to sell them something. Realize the information you have in your hands and act according to it.

5- Know what is your final speech

The final words are those that stick in people’s minds and that they will remember.

The beginning of your speech may attract, but the final makes them think. So, make sure you know where you want to go and what you want to say. We are not telling you to have a final catchy sentence made, it will depend on the course of the sale. As mentioned before, know what you are selling, listen to your customer and don’t rush to sell them something; but know when you have to stop and how you going to close the sale. This can be the difference between selling or losing the business.

A career in sales? Why not?

Probably you’ll never get bored. A sales career has different benefits, especially on a personal level. We can number several according to the tips we gave you: from learning to negotiate – by listening and understanding the main drivers of the client in front of you – to the persistence you will gain, to the discipline – by stopping to listen, think and then act – and the variety of people you will meet – with whom you will learn the best way to sell according to the type of person. It is a type of career where you continually learn to improve your personal skills, as well as knowledge about what you are selling. One day you may be selling a technological product, another a service, another an experience from another world.
