Practicing mindfulness is not an isolated approach. It involves several dimensions that you can train in order to improve your overall well-being. This will have a positive impact in your life.

There are five dimensions which are identified as the best for practicing mindfulness. If you manage to train and improve all of them you are one step ahead for being happy. This will obviously expand your abilities and help you in all aspects of your life.

But what are those five dimensions?

Career well-being – the way you occupy your time, considering not only the working schedule but how you spend the whole day.

Social well-being – having strong and true relationships in your life.

Financial well-being – being able to manage your finances and take the right decisions.

Physical well-being – having good health and enough energy to get you trough the day.

Community well-being – the way you integrate in your residential area, etc.

The most important thing to know is that you can work on each of these five dimensions. A recent study conducted by Gallup concluded that while 66% of the world population are dealing well with at least one of these dimensions, only 7% is addressing all of them.

The idea is simple: if we are having troubles with any of these dimensions, we are damaging our life. If we improve on any of them, we will contribute positively to ourselves. That’s why practicing mindfulness is so important, since it will allow us to focus and get the most out of each life context.

Of course, there is not a specific and miraculous formula you can follow. It will be different for each individual as life has different contexts for everyone.

Practicing mindfulness will help to be concentrated in these dimensions. And improving them it’s not that difficult. You can, for example, exercise if you want to improve your physical well-being or spend more time with your friends to benefit your social dimension.

We are indeed in control of these factors, but the most common mistake is taking short-time decisions, instead of a long-term approach. While that may seem the best choice at the moment, it will bring difficulties in the long run. Some people call it short-term desires. You need to focus on behavioral change which will take effect in a sustained way.

Practicing mindfulness

Ideally, you will find short-term incentives that are consistent with the long-term objectives. A 20 minutes exercise will boost our mood for the next 12 hours. This is the perfect example that the short-term decision will help our global goals.

In most cases, you won’t feel an immediate benefit, but the secret is to align or day to day actions with the long-term interests. Practicing mindfulness is an intelligent option that will promote good decisions in each one of these dimensions.

Taking all this into consideration will tremendously impact your life. This is off course important at a professional level, because you will be able to perform better. For that, you should try to join a company that promotes work-life balance, such as Teleperformance Portugal.
