Your visa depends on the purpose of your visit and how long you intend to stay. If you’re just a tourist visiting Portugal for less than 3 months, you should apply for the Schengen short-stay visa.
If you need to travel or pass from a non-EU country, you should request Airport Transit visa that allows you to go from one flight to another, without entering the Schengen area. This visa is mandatory for all passengers that change flights in a Schengen country airport.
If you want to stay for a long period of time, the Portugal Visa Requirements oblige you to ask for a long-stay visa, which allows you to stay for 4 months with multiple entries. If you have medical treatment in Portugal, temporary employment or will conduct scientific research, this is for you!
Last but not least, the Portugal residence visa gives you 4 months in the country to request a residence permit. This is the ideal one if you are employed or studying in Portugal, for example.
